PTO MEETING MINUTES

April 3, 2007

7:00 pm - 8:30 pm

A. Financial Report was read and approved.

B. Minutes from March meeting were available for anyone to view.

C. Wilson Park Easter Egg Hunt results were discussed. $67.00 was raised. Marilyn Toppins invited us back again next year to provide concessions. A vote was taken to purchase our own popcorn machine for future use. The vote was unanimous. Kristi will purchase the machine from Sam’s Club for $200.00.

D. Flea Market sign up sheet was passed around. It was decided that the flea market will begin Saturday, April 14 at 7:30 am and will go thru the end of May, at which time the PTO will make a decision to continue through the summer or not.

E. Chip Brown discussed ideas that were brought up at the School-wide behavior meeting held on March 20th. MES is really striving for positive reinforcement to reward good behavior. One idea is to reward the classroom as a whole with an outdoor lunch one day. Or snack time outdoors at the picnic area. He also mentioned that they may need to ask the PTO for a donation of around $200.00 next year for some software that is necessary for their program. If the school board is unable to furnish it for them, they were asked to come to a PTO meeting and describe what they are asking for and we will then be able to accommodate them.

F. Painting Dates: We have scheduled May 5th at 10:30 am as the date for painting the teachers lounge. Everyone who is available is asked to attend. As for the hallways, it was mentioned that we could request the jailers to assist in getting this done. Mr. Neely stated that it would have to be after Summer School ended in July. Lou is going to put together a letter/survey to be distributed to each teacher and staff at MES to request their opinion on how to get them to our meetings and when or if they would be willing to give up 4 hours one Saturday during the summer to help us paint the hallways.

G. Recycling Program: Someone has put our printer cartridge/cell phone recycling container underneath the table in front of the office and has installed a new one from a different company, therefore taking away one of our fundraisers. No one seems to know who did this. Mr. Neely stated that it was not passed by him for his approval. We are checking into this.

H. Teacher Appreciation Week: The committee has been formed. The dates are May 7th thru May 11th. The committee consists of Kathy Berry, Kim Martin, Teresa Williams, Lisa Henry, Angie White and Lou Walls.

I. Fundraiser Schedule for 2007-2008 school year was discussed. Everyone seemed to agree on the following: Dinner/Silent Auction (August), Fall Carnival (October), Theme Baskets (December), Santa’s Workshop (December) -Amy Coile will be the committee chairperson for this event, Movie Night in the Gym (January?), Winter Getaway Raffle (February), and the Wilson Park Easter Egg Hunt (March).

J. Election of Board Members for 2007-2008 school year: It was discussed that if anyone wanted to run for any seat on the board, that we will be voting at the next meeting.

K. Picnic Shelter Use- As soon as the shelter is ready to use, we discussed placing a sign that notifies people that the shelter is under surveillance in order to keep down the chance of vandalizing.

L. Team Depot- A proposal was put together for the leader of the Team Depot and will be delivered along with photos of the exterior of the school to Erin Spitzer on Wednesday, April 4th. Our request basically includes landscaping for the entire school and something “special” for the picnic area as a place for students and teachers to “escape” during lunch or for a special outing as part of a reward system.

M. Next Meeting will be held on May 1, 2007 at 7:00 in the library.

N. The $25.00 gift card drawing was held and Peggy Beason was the lucky winner!
