Who is this Chip?
I get asked that quite often through mail I get related to Maynardville.Com.
Sometimes the mail is humorous, sometimes it is very maddening, but all the
time it's fun to read. One thing Maynardville.Com has done is bring some
of my Horace Maynard High School friends out of the woodwork. Some I hadn't
seen since highschool. I guess that may be one of my biggest benefits
from this project so far.
But usually the mail I get is either very angry with me, or very happy. Probably
three pieces of happy mail for every one hateful flame letter, so I guess
I'm doing allright. One of the more common personal questions I get is, "I
went to school with you, my name is XXX ,do you remember me?". Well the answer
is yes, I remember you. Honestly, I have a better memory of back then than
I do where I parked my car last. If you know me, or think you know me, send
me an e-mail, I'd love to hear from
you. If I owe you money, I'm not the right guy. There must be other Chip
Browns out there.
Anyway, to answer some of the more common questions, I have created this
page. I hope it helps. And as more questions come in I'll add more here.
Thanks for using my site and enjoy.
Want to leave me a note? Got a comment about me or the page? Remember me
from school? Want to tell the world some dirty secret on me? Stop by my
personal message board
and leave a note. And no, you don't have to leave your name.
Is Chip your real name?
Well, it is as far as I'm concerned. My real name is Charles, and I always
hated when people called me Charlie, so around the age of six I picked up
the name of Chip. Some of my close friends in school called me Charles, and
I let them by with it. But one day I'll go nuts and hunt them down.
Why did you start this page?
Programming is what I do, and have done for some time. About three years
ago, a friend asked me if I'd be interested in doing a USGenWeb page, for
Union County. Shortly after that, I started the History Page for Union
County. Nobody had done it, and nobody had expressed interest in doing it.
So I agreed and the Union County TnGenWeb website (www.rootsweb.com~tnunion)
was started. These pages deal with Union County history and genealogy.
Some time later I thought, I'd like to branch out into more current stuff
about our area. So I bought some server space, registered a domain and started
Maynardville.Com. Four hundred and two webpages later, here we are.
Why do you complain about Union County?
I don't think I do. I have always enjoyed living in Union County. I have
further enjoyed a good deal of the people from here. But what I write about
are the topics that interest people. When I first started, Maynardville.Com
was somewhat of a Union County advertisement. This website is not a Union
County cheerleader, and was never intended to be. This website was intended
to be a voice for the people. A voice that could disagree, and have opinions.
People don't need a voice to agree with what is going on. Their silence does
that, as well as their failure to go to the polls.
Did you go to school in Union County?
Yes I did! And oddly enough, I'm very proud of it. I graduated in 1983 from
Horace Maynard High. There is an education there, if kids want to get it.
Or at least there was when I went.
Who was your favorite teacher there?
Mr Shumate, by far, was my favorite teacher. And I will say, he was the one
teacher that made the biggest difference with me. He was and is a teacher
that challenges kids. He doesn't just tell kids that plants grow, he challenges
them to find out why.
What was your favorite class?
Physics, was my favorite all time class in the Union County school system.
Although Chemistry was pretty fun (until the chlorine gas incident). The
chlorine gas incident was either Ted or Randy's fault. See that Shumate?
Ted or Randy did it, not me. Oh well, I guess the school enjoyed their time
standing outside, waiting on the fire department.
What was the most useful thing you learned?
Well, I started to say I learned that I could make a lot of money writing
poems for my friends in Miss Eileen's class. But I was afraid she'd read
this and figure some way to still flunk me. So I guess the most useful thing
I learned in school was that you can make art from macaroni. Remember pasting
macaroni on paper to make art? Shoot I got good at that stuff, let me tell
you. Now I still can't figure how I'll use this skill, but if anybody out
there is looking for a macaroni artist, I'm your guy. I'm pretty good at
eating school paste too.
Are you getting rich doing this?
Ha Ha Ha Ha! If you take out an ad with me I can go to McDonald's this weekend.
If not I guess it's bologna sandwiches again.
Do I help other people starting personal homepages?
Don't care a bit to. If they will e-mail me I'll help them any way I can.
My time is pretty occupied but I can usually squeeze a minute or two.
Did you write the stuff on your humor pages?
If you look in the URL of the page you go to, and it says "myfiles", I wrote
it. All the wacky editorials are mine, and I have hundreds more. I have been
blessed in being able to see humor in every day life.
Do you have a staff?
You know sometimes I feel real important. I have a fax machine built into
my computer. I have a 1-800 number voice mail system. Can't figure out either
one. Did send myself a voicemail once, but was never able to repeat the
phenomena. But I do have a vice president in charge that helps me from time
to time. Click here to see his page.
Did you date my daughter in school?
No! That was that other Chip guy. You know, the one mentioned above that
owes people money. Nope, that wasn't me.
