Tax N Stuff
I get a lot of mail every day. Some I answer in my newsletters and some I
However, I get a lot of mail about two articles I wrote. One is Lake Monster and the other is Chip's Tax Plan. I am amazed at the amount of people who write me and ask me if I'm serious. Does Dave Barry get this? I got one this week that asked me and I quote, "I just read your article on your tax plan, are you an idiot or are you kidding?" Yes, I am an idiot and yes, I was kidding. I'm not sure which article they were talking about as I give the state the benefit of my advice quite often. But putting my Lake Monster idea and the State Gameshow aside, I do have some opinions about our state. Wanna hear them? Too bad, because here I go. First off I want to say that we're fortunate to have a Representative like Mark Goins and a Senator like Mike Williams. No, I'm not campaigning for them, but if you look at the records of some of the other morons in Nashville, you too will be thankful for our two local politicians that aren't followers. Now what about this budget deficit? My wife got involved with some sort of organization and will be meeting the Governor today (I'm writing this on a Thursday in March). I have met the Governor myself and he seems nice enough as a person. However, I just don't follow his budget ideas. What deficit? When he first started hollering deficit I looked at the projected budget. I have several years of experience reading and writing nonsense, so I understood it. The thing that got me, was that the proposed increase in spending that year was larger than the deficit. Let me put that in English. It's the same as you having five dollars to your name and saying you're going to buy a new TV. If you buy a $300 dollar TV and only have $5 your have a deficit of $295. You also have an angry TV salesman. Now how do I fix this? Don't buy the danged TV! It's that simple! That bunch in Nashville needs to quit spending new money like drunken sailors on shore leave and get back to basics. If our budget is balanced one year and the new proposed spending increases will cause a deficit, let's own up to the problem...We can't afford all those new things. Let's fund the stuff we did the previous year and if we have money left over we'll spend that. Some of our legislators believe if we can't afford all the new things they want we need new taxes. When did spending more than we have become the people's problem? We send these guys to Nashville and they spend more money than we have. If one of my employees did that I'd fire him and most likely plant my boot in his rear end. At least we have two politicians here in our County in Mark and Mike that listen to reason. But since they only get two votes and nobody has seen fit to appoint me Ruler of Tennessee, we'll probably deficit ourselves into an Income Tax. Just remember this...The next time a politician gets on TV and says we have to raise taxes because of the deficit...What they're actually saying is, "WE spent more money than we have, you taxpayers send us some more so we can continue these practices."
