What's Wrong With You People?

I write a bunch of odd things for both this site, and other people. I've always had a different point of view on most subjects. I often even disagree with myself. But there is something I've never been able to figure out. My mail!

You remember the other day I answered a batch of my mail online? Well I've gotten tons more.

I don't know who scares me most, the people who tell me I'm insane for wanting to have a Lake Monster, or those who agree with me.

We are having somewhere around 1200 web visits a week. That's huge for a website of this type. With this many visits you're bound to get some odd mail. What gets to me most, is the articles they complain about. I wrote an article about traffic in Union County. I thought everyone should agree with this! I simply said in a weird way that there had been too many wrecks on 33 highway. Then some website patron, wrote me to apparently protest this article. Seems this person must think there hadn't been near enough wrecks. Then a guy wrote to tell me that most of the speeding, bad driving, passing on shoulders and in turning lanes is done by Kentucky drivers.

Oh, please! I am sure that Kentucky drivers are as bad as any and maybe a little worse. But to say that we're innocent of poor driving skills in Union County is burying your head in the sand. Shoot, I do most of the things I complain about, with exception of passing in the turning lane.

This person asked how long I had lived in Union County. Well sir, I am a native in good standing. I have never lived anywhere else, with the exception of two days in Kentucky (parents were diving through when I was born, and I spent two days in the hospital, hardly my fault). I am in my thirties and know and am known by hundreds of people. Of those I'm sure five or six like me.

This person asked me to quit inferring that Union County people are uneducated. I don't think that at all. Without naming names, I will say that the most intelligent man I have ever known is a Union County native. No, I think per capita, Union County people are very nice and intelligent.

As far as Hwy 33 and the driving on it, just because someone passes in a turning lane, doesn't make them a mental deficient. It simply is poor judgment at that time. The person that does it may know more about computer programming than me, or have a higher IQ. But at that point and time, I feel they aren't making the correct decision.

So my point is, judge Union County on itself, and your experiences with it. Judge hwy 33 on it's merits and not how long it took us to get traffic lights or turning lanes. Judge my stories as humor, and for the most part, that's what they are intended to be. Disagree with me if you want! Feel free to do so. I am always open to criticism. I am encouraged to write more because of it. It's only after people disagree with me that I realize, in my humor I have made people actually think!

A lady asked me the other day to run for public office. I told her that this was indeed in my future and that I intended to one day. She then asked what some of my editorials would do to my campaign. Well indeed, that is a concern. The people that disagree with me probably won't vote for me. And the ones that agree that we should purchase a Lake Monster for our county...Well I'm not sure I want them supporting me.

So I guess I'll just have to buy my votes!
