Helpful Agencies

Tennessee Consumer Protection Agency 1-800-342-8385
I started off with this one, because in my opinion it is the most important. Stop by their website and see the names of companies they've fought on behalf of Tennessee citizens. This organization is a tad slow, but most helpful.

Restaurant Inspection Scores
Wonder how our local restaurants did? Chip's note - I used to work in the food business, (White Stores meat department). Don't read too much into these scores. If you saw some of the things they grade on...Well, I'm sure most of our home kitchens wouldn't fare too well.

Report Child Abuse
Department of Children's Services
First thing to do is call the local authorities. Make sure you call the Sheriff's department. The most important thing is to get the child out of danger. But if after contacting the local DHS, you see further signs, or you feel the local DHS doesn't follow up click on the blue e-mail link above.

Union County Department of Children's

Maynardville, TN. 37807
423-992-5802 FAX 423-992-7250

EPA
The EPA doesn't have an e-mail address that I have found. I guess they get too much mail as it is. But if you think that trailer park will contaminate your well, or something similar, call: 1-800-241-1754

Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation
Email 1-800-435-9617. This is like a state version of the EPA. Most times they are more responsive. Be sure to send a copy of the letter you send here to your Representative, and Senator. Be sure to inform this agency that you have forwarded copies to theses people. Also inform them that you intend to forward their response to these officials also.

Tennessee Board of Education
Email the Chairman
Not getting a response from local officials? Got one and it didn't make sense to you. Think there is something wrong that needs looking into? This is the agency to contact. Union County is in District 4 and our board member is Mr. Burrell Harris. P.O. Box 257, Crossville, TN 38557. Be sure to send a copy to the chairman using the email link above.

State Department of Transportation

State Department of Labor
Company you work for taking out for things you don't understand? Been laid off while others have not? Work for a county agency and want to know why you don't have insurance while others do? Try these people out.

Better Business Bureau
Just click on the name to file a complaint against a business online. The Better Business Bureau has no real powers, but they can, in some cases push your issue. Always be sure to also file your complaint with the Tennessee department of Consumer Affairs.

Wal-Mart 1-800-966-6546
Tired of being ignored? Tired of idiots wandering around in your way that work there? Tired of cashiers scratching their behinds before checking you out? Report them.
