Protecting Our Kids

I don't often write very serious articles, but I just wanted to touch on this subject. I am certainly no expert, but I will hand you off to some sites that are. I think common sense plays a big role in our kids safety. We lock our cars in the parking lot, and pay extra for car alarms (that don't work). But yet we get in the store and let our kids wander off.

A lot has been said recently about Halloween and the dangers to kids. Articles have been written about the Internet and how predators will take your kids. It almost makes it sound like some deviant will reach right out of the screen and snatch your child away.

This is simply not the case. I'm not saying all cases of child abduction could be stopped, but some could be avoided. There are common sense things that can be done to protect our kids.

When in stores, keep an eye on your kids at all times. When your kid is surfing the net, know what they're doing. The computer is not your babysitter. I have heard parents say "junior knows computers...I'm not sure what all he can do." Learn the computer along with your child. Do not trust safety ratings in your browser or ISP. Most depend on voluntary ratings by website owners. There is no substitute for parental supervision.

Maynardville.Com is dedicated to finding missing kids in any way possible. If your child is missing, please, first call the police and local authorities. If we can be of any help to you, feel free to contact us. We will make every effort possible to send your information to as many people  and authorities as possible.
