ABOUT CHIP

Chip's family hails from Scotland dating back to the 1500's. This probably explains his love for the argument.

In 1567 one of Chp's ancestors, Jehu Browne,  took part in the Scottish uprising against Mary Queen of Scotts. After being taken prisoner he was imprisoned in England for several years. As the prisons began to fill with Scottish prisoners some (including Chip's ancestor) were offered a pardon. The conditions were that they leave England and Scotland never to return. They were given passage to the new world (sort of a one way ticket).

After settling near what is now Pennsylvania, the family began to migrate southward. In 1776 another Jehu Brown (grandson of the first) joined the Revolutionary Army (Scottish folks love to fight). After the war he was awarded a tract of land in the Yadkin River Valley of North Carolina, along with his brother Charles. Charles moved on to Lee County Virginia where he settled with his family. After Jehu's death his family moved to Lee County also to live with his brother Charles.

The descendants of Charles, moved down the Clinch River and settled in the Powell River Valley of Claiborne County. The sons of Charles and Jehu (named Jasper and Jehu) lived on the banks of the Powell River. Jasper would later settle in Straight Creek in what is now Norris Lake.

HOBBIES

Chip enjoys hanging out at the local spots and talking politics with the elders of our community. His hobbies range from metal detecting to building custum game calls. Some of his game calls can be found in national magazines as well as the book "Mick's Picks" by Earl Mickel.

But to date Chip's number one hobby is angering his wife. Whether it is taking an unpopular view to a current event just to make her mad, or leaving dirty socks in the floor, he revels in making her yell.
